One institute quotes ₹30,000, another ₹1.5 lakh, and a third won't tell you until a telecaller has called you three times. This guide explains what the price ranges are, what actually drives the cost, which costs stay hidden until later, and how to spend sensibly as a beginner.

What makes one course cost more than another

  • An industry certification. This is the biggest factor. Programs that include an EC-Council or CompTIA certification cost the most. CompTIA certifications are usually a little cheaper than EC-Council's.
  • Duration. A three-month program costs more than a four-week one.
  • Classroom or online. Learning in person at an institute usually costs more than learning online.

Which certification should you aim for? We recommend CEH, the Certified Ethical Hacker, because it covers the fundamentals of cybersecurity completely, from penetration testing to web applications, IoT and the newest AI modules. It's also the certification that most job posts in India still ask for. See what CEH v13 costs in India for the exam voucher and the other fees.

Hidden costs to ask about before you pay

  1. The exam voucher Many institutes quote only the training fee and mention the certification cost later. Always ask whether the exam voucher is included.
  2. GST Ask whether the quoted fee includes GST, or whether 18% will be added on top.
  3. Premises or seat charges Some institutes charge students extra for using their office, desks and chairs. Ask if anything like this applies.
  4. Their own certificate Some quote a low price and hand you their own institute certificate instead of the real industry exam. Check the name of the certification you'll actually receive.

What a beginner should spend before CEH

Going straight into CEH with no background is a mistake. CEH isn't a small certification: it's an in-depth program covering penetration testing and almost every area of cybersecurity, from IoT and web servers to the newest AI-related modules. It only pays off if you start it with your fundamentals in place.

So our advice is simple:

A sensible way to spend on cybersecurity

  1. Research firstCheck job posts on LinkedIn: free
  2. Build the basicsA beginner course with labs: about ₹4,500
  3. CertifyCEH at an accredited centre
  4. First jobTake it for the experience
  • Time: spend a few evenings researching certifications. Search for cybersecurity jobs on LinkedIn and read what employers ask for. You'll see for yourself how often CEH appears as the basic requirement in India.
  • Money: spend about ₹4,500 on a practical beginner course before CEH. You'll learn networking with real Wireshark captures, recon, password attacks and web hacking, and find out whether the field is really for you before spending more.
